Beyond blasting, a slightly higher strength score and spells like blur, mirror image, and true strike will help. Fun!Ħ: Recommended Spells: While you shouldn't go into melee often, it can be useful to shocking grasp a flanked enemy for sneak attack damage. Critical Focus: Ray is fun if you get to that level because spells do double damage when you crit. Even though you're going against touch AC, your BAB is ABYSMAL, so anything helps. Intensify spell is good for basic blasting, spell penetration if you run into a lot of spell-resisting creatures, and weapon focus (ray) will keep up your reliability. I took 3 levels of rogue, so I took Mage's Tattoo (Evocation) to keep my evocation casting at my character level, but I took 3 levels of rogue so yeah.Ĥ: I'd highly recommend scorching ray until you get surprise spells (which won't be until the very endgame of RotRL - even though RAW only the first ray applies, it's still a really solid damage spell and if you can convince your GM to have the sneak attack apply to all rays once you get more than one, it's gravy.ĥ: Recommended feats: Mostly just keep your damage up. Divination school is good for ALWAYS going first and hitting against flat-footed, but admixture evocation is really solid for dealing with enemies that can resist fire.Ģ I'd suggest bonded item over familiar, as the extra spell flexibility can be super helpful if you come into a situation and you forgot to prepare spider climb, for example.ģ: Magical Knack, Spell focus, and greater spell focus will help to keep your damage output high - You'll lose a couple of caster levels but getting them back will give you more d6s on your fireball/scorching ray. I would suggest a few things, since I have played quite a bit of arcane trickster :Pġ: is go as far into spellcasting as you can - arcane trickster works much better as a sneaky blaster than a magic rogue. ![]() ![]() I'll probably take my first level rogue and I was thinking of Eschew Materials (for flavour and ease of use) and Improved initiative for my starting feats.Īny advice would be greatly appreciated :) Having NEVER played a prepared arcane spell caster, I was wondering if you guys had any suggestions on feats, builds, useful spells or equipment I should keep my eyes open for? I'm starting human with (probably) the following stats (20 or buy, +2 in INT) THANKFULLY, he is allowing me to take the accomplished sneak attacker feat from the latest book to make Arcane Trickster less. My GM and I decided it would be best to focus on RP and not min-maxing to help encourage the new players, so we're capping starting stats at 16 max. I've been playing for a while, but we're playing some people who are brand new, so we're limiting it to Core, Ultimate Combat, Ultimate Magic, and the Advanced Players Guide. So! Some of my friends and I are starting Rise of the Runelords soon, and I want to play a sneaky wizard/rogue.
